Use your Shelf library from AI tools
Shelf has an MCP server, so Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other AI tools can search the website sections you've saved and read your collections. On Free that's all they can do: they only read. On Pro they can also look at the screenshots and organize your collections for you. You sign in with your Shelf account, and you can disconnect a tool at any time.

}What your AI tool can do
You don't call these yourself: ask in your own words and the AI picks the right one. Every result links back to the section on Shelf. The three tools that change collections are Pro only. On Free your AI tool isn't offered them, so it can only read.
search_library
Searches your library and Shelf's public library by words, section type, page type, colour scheme, tags or website, 20 results at a time.
- query
- words to match in titles, page text and tags
- visibility
- mine, public or all
- sectionType
- such as hero, pricing or faq
- pageType
- such as pricing
- colour
- a colour scheme, such as dark, pastel or vibrant
- terms
- tags every result must have
- site
- a website, such as linear.app
- limit
- up to 20
- cursor
- the next page
Try:
Find hero sections with dark backgrounds from my library.
get_section
Reads one section in full: title, website, page, tags, main colours, when it was captured and its link. On Pro it can also send the screenshot itself so the AI can look at it.
- id
- Required. from search_library or get_collection
- includeImage
- send the screenshot (Pro)
Try:
Show me that first pricing table and describe its layout.
list_collections
Lists your collections with how many items each holds.
- limit
- up to 20
- cursor
- the next page
Try:
What collections do I have?
get_collection
Lists the sections in one of your collections, newest first, up to 50 at a time.
- id
- Required. from list_collections
- limit
- up to 50
- cursor
- the next page
Try:
What's in my Onboarding collection?
create_collection
ProCreates a collection with a name, an optional description and, if you like, the sections to start it with. A retry doesn't make a second one.
- name
- Required. up to 80 characters
- description
- up to 240 characters
- sectionIds
- up to 50 sections to add
- idempotencyKey
- Required. a unique key the AI makes up, so a retry is safe
Try:
Make a collection called Dark heroes and add those results to it.
add_to_collection
ProAdds sections to one of your collections. A public section you haven't saved yet is saved to your library first.
- collectionId
- Required. from list_collections or create_collection
- sectionIds
- Required. 1 to 50 sections
Try:
Add the Linear and Vercel footers to my Footers collection.
remove_from_collection
ProRemoves sections from one of your collections. The sections stay in your library.
- collectionId
- Required. from list_collections or create_collection
- sectionIds
- Required. 1 to 50 sections
Try:
Take the light-mode heroes out of Dark heroes.
Ready-made prompts
Tools that support MCP prompts list these as slash commands or in a prompts menu. Each one tells the AI which Shelf tools to use, so you get a useful answer in one step. design-review looks at screenshots, so it's Pro only and Free accounts don't see it.
find-references
Finds the best references for what you're designing in your library and the public library, with a line on why each one fits.
- brief
- Required. what you're designing
- count
- how many, 5 by default and up to 12
design-review
ProReviews one of your captured sections, or a page of yours you've captured, against related designs on Shelf, looking at the screenshots.
- sectionId
- a section's id or its Shelf link
- pageUrl
- or the address of a page you've captured
brief-from-collection
Turns one of your collections into a short design brief from the patterns its sections share.
- collection
- Required. the collection's name or id
whats-new
Sums up what you've captured or saved recently, grouped by section type.
- days
- how far back, 7 by default and up to 90
Limits by plan
Both plans include AI tools. Daily limits reset at midnight UTC, and calls that fail because of bad input don't count.

Privacy
What the AI tool can see
Sections in your library and public sections on Shelf: their titles, websites, tags, colours and links, plus your collections. On Pro it can also receive screenshots. It never sees your email address, billing details, notes, share links or anyone else's private captures.
Where your data goes
Shelf sends results only to the tool you connected, when it asks. That tool's provider handles what it receives under its own terms and privacy policy. Shelf doesn't pass your library to any AI provider through MCP.
Disconnecting
Disconnecting a tool in Settings, then MCP, stops it reading your library. It doesn't remove anything the tool already received, such as results in a past chat. Delete those in the tool itself.
What Shelf records
For limits and to spot abuse, Shelf logs each call: the tool used, when, and how long it took. It doesn't store what you asked or what came back. Logs are kept for 30 days. Public captures can be found by anyone's AI tool, just as they can on the website. See the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
Give your AI tool a design library
Save sections from any website with the Chrome extension, then ask Claude or Cursor to find the ones you need.
