October 2026

Week of 12 October

  • ImprovedLibraryExplore

Refine pages and websites by their tags

Refine on Pages and Websites now lists tags like style, color, layout and industry, with a count beside each. Pick several to see only the references that have all of them.

The Refine panel on Pages listing style, color and imagery tags with a count beside each, with Editorial and Monochrome selected.
  • NewLibraryExplore

Search pages and websites from the top bar

Search now sits in the top bar on Sections, Pages and Websites, in your library and in Explore. Pages and websites match on their name, site and address, and on the tags Shelf gave them.

The Pages view in the Shelf library with “pricing” typed into the top bar search, showing pricing pages saved from Stripe, Ramp and Intercom.
  • NewLibraryExplore

    Section variants

Sections now have a variant within their type, such as a split or collage hero. Pick a section type in Refine to filter by its variants, or set the variant yourself when you edit a section.

The Refine panel on Sections with Hero chosen as the section type and its variants listed as chips with counts, Collage selected.
  • ImprovedExploreLibrary

    Browse Explore without an account

Explore now lives at shelf.design/explore and anyone can browse it. Your own references moved to shelf.design/library, so update any old bookmarks.

    Open Explore
  • ImprovedLibrary

    More accurate automatic tags

Shelf now tags what you save with Claude. Tags for motion and technology are only added when they're visible in the capture, so fewer of them are guesses.

Week of 5 October

  • ImprovedExtension

    A faster capture dialog

The extension's capture dialog opens faster, and Take a photo no longer reloads it. A new settings menu takes you to your library, and the extension now follows your shelf.design sign-in.

  • FixedLibraryCollections

Your whole library, as you scroll

Libraries and collections used to stop at 400 items. They now load more as you scroll, so everything you've saved is within reach.

  • ImprovedLibrary

Capture a section, page or website from the web app

New capture now asks what you're saving first: a section, a page or a whole website. Each one can go straight into a collection with a private note.

  • ImprovedExtensionCollections

Save pages and websites into a collection from the extension

Save page and Save website in the extension now let you pick a collection, or create one, before you save.

  • NewAccount

Export your data or delete your account

Settings has a new Profile page where you can edit your account, download everything you've saved, or delete your account and all of its data.

  • FixedExtension

Saving from the extension no longer fails after a minute

If the capture dialog stayed open for a while, saving could fail with a sign-in error. The extension now refreshes your session before every save.

  • ImprovedLibraryExtension

A new look for Shelf and easier navigation on phones

Shelf has a new logo across the site, the app and the extension. On phones, the menu drawer is now a bar of icons along the bottom of the screen.

Week of 1 October

  • ImprovedLibrary

    A slimmer sidebar

The app's navigation is now a narrow sidebar of icons, leaving more of the screen for your references.

  • NewCollectionsCanvases

    Collections hold pages and websites

Collections now take pages and websites as well as sections. Use Add to collection in any detail view, or right-click a card. Canvases can hold pages too.

A saved Intercom homepage open in the full-screen viewer, with the Add to collection menu open and Editorial homepages ticked.
  • ImprovedCollections

    Share public collections straight away

Public collections no longer wait for a review before their share link works. Captures inside them still show once they've been checked.

  • NewWebsite anatomy

    Website anatomy: the hero section

A free guide to how hero sections are put together, part by part: what each part is for, the layouts that work, common questions and real examples saved on Shelf. Copy any guide as Markdown to hand it to your AI tool.

The hero section guide on shelf.design, with the headline lifted out of an exploded drawing of a hero and highlighted in blue.

  • NewExplore

    Featured pages in Explore

Explore has a Pages tab with hand-picked pages from real websites. Open one to see it in full, or save it to your library.

  • NewLibraryExtension

Private notes on everything you save

Sections, pages and websites have a notes field only you can see. Add a note when you save from the extension, or later from the edit drawer.

  • ImprovedLibraryExtension

    More section and page types

There are new section types to pick from, and page types now include Homepage, About, Demo, Contact, Careers, Pricing, Case studies and more.

  • ImprovedExtension

    A simpler capture dialog

Section and page types are now fields you can type to search, and you can find or create a collection the same way. Save website gets its own review screen, and the select element mode is gone in favor of Take a photo.

  • ImprovedBilling

See Pro's price before you upgrade

Billing settings show Pro's price and what it includes. If a payment fails, you keep Pro for 7 days and we tell you the date to update your card by.

September 2026

Week of 28 September

  • ImprovedLibraryExploreExtension

    A rebuilt, calmer interface

Every screen in Shelf was rebuilt on a new set of components, with quieter surfaces, a blue accent and clearer type, so your references stand out more than the tool around them.

  • NewExtensionLibrary

    Save whole pages

Save page in the extension keeps a screenshot of a page with its name and page type, ready to review before it uploads. Your saved pages get their own list in the library, with automatic tags.

The Shelf extension's dialog open on intercom.com with Save page selected.

Week of 21 September

  • ImprovedLibraryExplore

    One full-screen viewer

Sections and websites open in the same full-screen viewer, and a direct link to one opens it full screen too.

  • NewBilling

    Shelf Pro

Upgrade to Pro monthly or yearly, and manage your subscription and invoices from settings. On the Free plan, the top bar shows how many captures you've used.

  • NewCanvases

    Canvases

Lay out references on a whiteboard. Start blank or from a collection, add sections and websites from your library or from search, draw around them, and share a link so others can edit with you.

A canvas called Pricing page ideas, with saved references laid out on a whiteboard and two pricing sections circled with a note that reads Tiers side by side.
  • ImprovedCollectionsLibrary

Save to a collection from any card

Section cards have a Save to collection button, and every card shows the site it came from.

  • NewExplore

    Save from Explore

Explore has Sections and Websites tabs, and anything you like there can be saved to your own library in one click.

  • ImprovedLibrary

    A redesigned app

A new sidebar gets you to your sections, websites, Explore and collections. Settings open in a dialog, and you can drag images straight into Add capture.

Week of 7 September

  • NewAccount

    Send us feedback

Tell us what to improve or build next from the Send feedback dialog in the app. Every message reaches the team.

Week of 1 September

  • ImprovedExtension

    Easier sign-in for the extension

The extension signs you in on shelf.design in a full browser tab, and connects automatically if you're already signed in there.

  • NewExtensionLibrary

    Save whole websites

Save website in the extension keeps a site's name, favicon and preview, and your library splits into Sections and Websites. The extension now opens as a floating dialog on the page, so you never leave what you're looking at.

  • ImprovedExtensionLibrary

    Sharper captures

Captures of a page element are rendered at twice the resolution. Step through captures with the arrows in the viewer, and edit or delete saved websites.

  • NewLibraryCollections

    Suggested tags

Shelf suggests tags for a capture from its screenshot. Captures and collections you make public are checked first, and anyone can report one that shouldn't be there.

  • NewLibraryExplore

Search your shelf and choose who sees each capture

Search your own captures or everything public on Shelf, and narrow it down by page and section type. Each capture can be private, unlisted or public, with a default you choose.

  • ImprovedLibraryExtension

Captures remember where they came from

Every capture now keeps the page it was taken on, that page's type, the site's favicon and its social image.

August 2026
